Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), the statutory body of Indian Railways, has invited bids for commercial development of a railway plot for warehouse use at Tiruvottiyur, a prominent industrial cum commercial locality in North Chennai. The proposed plot for development covers an area of 50,010 sqm.
The railway plot in Tiruvottiyur is well connected to various parts of the city. Located 400 m from Manali Road, the proposed site is adjacent to Ennore High Road, which is towards the East. Buckingham Canal is towards the West of the site. On its South, the plot is surrounded by railroad lands. A flyover is under construction along Buckingham Canal Road and Thiruvottiyur- Manali Road on the northern edge of the plot. The Tiruvottiyur railway junction of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network is nearby.
Vice-chairman of RLDA Ved Parkash Dudeja said, “With the growth in e-commerce across the country, demand for warehousing space is at an all-time high. The proposed site will be an ideal location for big e-commerce companies to set up warehouses to meet the ever-increasing logistics demand.”
The site is located at distance of 1.1km from Tiruvottiyur railway station of suburban MRTS system and is 2.5km away from the metro station of Tiruvottiyur, an industrial area. The site is a vacant piece of land situated in the middle of industrial area. Mega sized refinery of IOCL is located in the south & CPCL is located in the north-west. A Container Corporation (Concor) terminal is situated in the east abutting the Ennore high road. There is a thin ribbon/ strip development of residences & shops along Ennore high road, catering to the IOCL Workers. It is a well-connected neighbourhood close to the city’s major landmarks.
The reserve price for the site is Rs 25.3 crores. The online pre-bid meeting was held on April 7 where various logistics firms showed interest for this land parcel. The last date of e-bid submission is May 17, 2022.
