The number of river cruise vessels has increased from three in 2013-14 to 25 in 2023-24.

Recently, Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced Rs 57,000 crore investment to boost the capacity at Kandla Port.

There has been a 767 per cent increase in number of operational national waterways and 635 per cent increase in volume of cargo handled on NWs

Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal also announced a series of new initiatives across 21 inland waterways states worth more than Rs 1400 crore.
