APM Terminals Pipavav witnesses de-growth in cargo handled in Q3 FY25

While APM Terminals Pipavav recorded a decline in dry bulk cargo, it reported an increase in liquid cargo handled during the period.

APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port) has witnessed a significant decline in cargo handled during the quarter ended December 2024 with nearly 177 TEUs containers handled as compared to 203 TEUs in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

During the quarter, the company handled 0.72 million MT (MMT)of dry bulk as against 0.75 MMT handled in Q3 FY2025. Similarly, it witnessed a decline in containers handled on train from 135 TEUs in October-December 2023 to 112 TEUs in Q3 FY2025. The company handled 496 container trains in Q3 FY2025 as compared to 589 trains handled a year-ago.

However, there was an increase in the liquid cargo handled during the quarter from 0.32 MMT in Q3 FY2024 to 0.39 MMT in the quarter under review. Similarly, the RoRo vessels handled also witnessed an increase to 44 from 29 in Q3 FY2024.

APM Terminals Pipavav has witnessed a de-growth in dry bulk cargo largely due to a reduction in fertiliser imports. Also, the company has temporarily suspended coal handling at the port due to operational reasons.

Gujarat Pipavav Port is India’s first private sector port located on the southwest coast of Gujarat near Bhavnagar. The port is strategically placed to on International Maritime Trade route which connects India with US, Europe, Africa, Middle East on one side and Far East on the other side.

The port’s container handling capacity is 1.35 million TEUs. The bulk cargo capacity is around 4-5 MMT depending on the cargo mix and the liquid cargo capacity is nearly 2 MMT. The RoRo vessels for car exports are handled on the container berth.Â
