In a significant boost to Tripura’s economy and surface communication network, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved projects worth over Rs 2,800 crore for the state.
The announcement follows a review meeting chaired by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi, which was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.
According to a statement by the Tripura government, various infrastructure projects were discussed during the meeting, leading to MoRTH’s commitment to improve the state’s road connectivity. The projects are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing surface communication, thereby promoting economic growth in the northeastern state.
The projects sanctioned include an allocation of Rs 800 crore for the Agartala Eastern Bypass and Rs 1,500 crore for the widening of the Amtali to Tripura Sundari Temple Road. Additionally, Rs 400 crore will be dedicated to upgrading the road from Ranirbazar to the inter-state bus terminus, and an extra Rs 100 crore will be granted under the Central Road Fund (CRF).
The approval for these projects came after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also handles the Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio, participated in the review meeting led by Union Minister Gadkari. The discussions centered around the need for robust road infrastructure to support Tripura’s economic aspirations and enhance connectivity within and beyond the state.
In a separate post on X, Gadkari informed that he reviewed the progress of 16 ongoing national highway projects spanning 324 km in Tripura. “In the meeting, we emphasised fast-tracking the development of highway infrastructure in Tripura, ensuring it is more sustainable and cost-efficient. These efforts will significantly improve connectivity, boost local economies, and further integrate the north-east into the national growth framework,” the minister said
